This exhibition deals with the relationships between Michel Ragon (Marseille, 1924 - Suresnes, 2020) ― one of the most important European art and architecture critics of the second half of the 20th century ― and the group of young architects formed by Yona Friedman, Paul Maymont, Ionel Schein, Nicolas Schöffer, Walter Jonas, and Georges Patrix, who in 1965, in Paris, founded the GIAP (International Group for Prospective Architecture).
All of Ragon's activities are inscribed in libertarian anarchist thinking, from his research on proletarian literature to his connections with the Cobra group and Jean Dubuffet, or the understanding of the city as a transformation of the living conditions of the working classes.
Admiration for Le Corbusier's figure led his interests in art to change towards directing his praxis towards architectural criticism since he considered that the concerns of the young members of the GIAP represented a logical evolution of the Swiss architect's thoughts on the machine for living.
Michel Ragon and the International Group for Prospective Architecture anticipated numerous current issues, such as participatory urban planning, local agriculture, social housing, and the relationships between power and city design.
The Ragon collection, which is the basis of the exhibition, is located at the Archives de la Critique d'Art, housed at the University of Rennes.
It can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday and holidays, from 11 am to 8 pm.
