«Antoni Clavé. In capital letters» is curated by Aude Hendgen, head of the Arxius Antoni Clavé in Paris, and Josep Félix Bentz, co-founder of the Palau Martorell and president of the Reial Cercle Artístic. The exhibition explores both Antoni Clavé's mastery and the importance of his work in the development of European artistic modernity. Therefore, the exhibition is organized through what he produced in the capitals where the artist lived or most cherished: Barcelona, Paris, Tokyo, and New York. Two venues will host the exhibition: the Palau Martorell and the Reial Cercle Artístic, where more than 80 masterpieces will be exhibited, coming from public and private collections, from his early works to the monumental panels made for the Generalitat de Catalunya.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Antoni Clavé (Barcelona, 1913 - Saint-Tropez, 2005). Therefore, the Palau Martorell and the Reial Cercle Artístic, in collaboration with the Arxius Antoni Clavé, want to pay tribute to his hometown, Barcelona. The exhibition "Antoni Clavé. In capital letters" explores both the mastery of the artist and the importance of his work in the development of European artistic modernity. The exhibition, conceived as a great retrospective and anthology of Antoni Clavé's work, is the first to be held in Barcelona since the 1996 exhibition at La Pedrera.

Antoni Clavé is one of the great figures of 20th-century Catalan art. His life's journey, marked both by his roots in his native Barcelona and by the subsequent forced exile in Paris, speaks to his constant adaptation and his inexhaustible trajectory of experimentation. Clavé mastered painting, engraving, illustration, sculpture, posters, and theater set design. A multidisciplinary artist, therefore, whose excellent creative ability made in his work, the matter, the texture, and a deep sense of color came together to build a universe at once classic and fiercely modern. Not in vain, the art critic and historian Pierre Cabanne defined Clavé as "a craftsman in the noblest sense of the term, a man who knew the secrets of matter and knew how to transmute it."
