Carmina Burana is a scenic cantata composed by Carl Orff in 1936, based on a collection of medieval poems found at the Benediktbeuern monastery in Germany. The lyrics, written in Latin, Old German, and Occitan, deal with universal themes such as fortune, love, desire, and the pleasure of living. The work begins and ends with the famous chorus "O Fortuna," a powerful exaltation of destiny that has become a symbol of 20th-century choral music.
This version puts the power of the voices and the intense rhythm that characterize Carl Orff's work at the forefront, maintaining its energy and spectacle, but with a closeness that invites you to experience it in a different way. With the Chorus of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, accompanied by the Percussion Group of the Gran Teatre del Liceu and two pianos, the audience will be able to rediscover Carmina Burana from a new perspective: more direct, human, and vibrant, yet equally moving and fascinating.
