On Thursday, January 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Espai Boqueria will host the conference "Between species and masala chai: a sensory journey through India," an activity organized by Casa Àsia in collaboration with Mercat de la Boqueria and the Consulate General of India in Barcelona, within the framework of the Dual Year Spain-India 2026.

On the occasion of the celebration of the Dual Year and the Republic Day of India (January 26), the session proposes a sensory journey through the country's gastronomic and cultural richness, focusing on the fundamental role of spices and one of its most emblematic beverages: masala chai.

The conference will be conducted by Anjalina Chugani, a specialist in Indian cuisine and author of the books Soul Spices and Rasa. The activity will begin with an introduction to the spice route, exploring its history, presence in different regions of India, and the multiple variations of masala according to family tradition. Next, Anjalina will give a live demonstration of preparing masala chai, explaining the ingredients, techniques, and associated rituals.

The session will end with a tasting of freshly made masala chai. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to purchase the books Soul Spices and Rasa, which the author will make available to the public during the event.

The event will feature welcome remarks from Mr. Inbasekar Sundaramurthi, Consul General of India, and Jose Pintor, General Director of Casa Àsia.
