Council of Sages of La Boqueria: Carles Gaig

On Monday, April 13 at 11 a.m., La Boqueria will pay tribute to chef Carles Gaig, a key figure in Catalan cuisine and head of Restaurant Gaig and Petit Comitè, as part of the Consell de Savis (Council of Wise People) series.

The Consell de Savis, created in April 2022, aims to recognize prominent figures in the world of gastronomy and hospitality who have paved the way and set trends in the Catalan culinary scene. The event will have limited capacity.

Carles Gaig is the fourth generation of a family closely linked to Catalan cuisine. Throughout his career, he has kept the family legacy alive, masterfully and rigorously combining tradition and innovation. He has led projects that showcase his evolution and impact, such as Fonda Gaig, Porta Gaig, and Gaig a Casa, as well as international ventures like La Ventana by Gaig in Singapore.

In 1989, he transformed the historic Taberna d'en Gaig into Restaurant Gaig, starting a new chapter that earned him a Michelin star in 1993. Since then, he has established himself as one of the most influential figures in local gastronomy.

In previous Consell de Savis editions, La Boqueria has honored leading figures in the world of gastronomy and hospitality such as Joan Bayén (Bar Pinotxo), Isidre Gironès (Ca l'Isidre), Jean-Louis Neichel (Restaurant Neichel), Josep Solà (Bodega Sepúlveda), Francesc Fortí (Racó d'en Binu), Joan Rossell (Joan de les Flors), Josep Monje (Restaurant Via Veneto), Josep Lladonosa (Quatre Barres), Jaume Subirós (Motel Empordà), and Montserrat and Alícia Agut (Can Culleretes), among others.
