The exhibition “Breaking Ships, Breaking Lives”, which can be seen at the Maritime Museum of Barcelona from February 21 to November 30, 2025, aims to raise awareness of what is considered one of the most dangerous trades in the world, the so-called “beaching” or ship breaking, which is carried out directly on beaches.

Breaking a ship in Europe is expensive due to strict regulations, so many ship owners seek alternative and more economical regions. In Southeast Asia, there are several places where this activity is carried out at a lower cost and with fewer legal requirements.

In this exhibition, we will learn about the life of the people who work in these facilities and the harsh working conditions they face day after day. It is a business for some, and an extremely precarious way of life and job for many people.

It can be visited from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
