On May 14th at 5:00 p.m., the Erotic Museum of Barcelona (MEB) will inaugurate the first VuVaC, Festival of the Vulva, Vagina, and Clitoris.

The Festival will take place from May 14th to 24th, and the highlight is the inauguration of a new room at the MEB dedicated to the representation of the Vulva, Vagina, and Clitoris in art across various cultures and different historical periods. Among the works exhibited in the new room are "The Great Wall of Vagina" (2006) by British artist Jamie McCartney and "VDoor Project" (2024) by Colombian artist Patricia Bonfante. "For two years we have been celebrating the Penis Festival in April, and we are very happy to finally celebrate our first VuVaC. The Museum will do so by inaugurating a new room dedicated to the Vulva, Vagina, and Clitoris, a space that we felt was necessary to continue sharing knowledge," explains Sarah Rippert, director of the MEB.

VuVaC 2025: exhibitions, tours, and contest

During the VuVaC 2025 celebration, tours can be booked with the MEB's sexologist, Sigrid Cervera, who will specially visit the new room and works related to the Festival.

Also, as part of this, the ecological sexual wellness brand Lola Games presents an exhibition at the MEB, titled "Clitoris Awareness," inviting visitors to trace through the centuries, from the first mentions of the clitoris to scientific advances concerning this organ. "In addition, all visitors can request a vulva-shaped lollipop with their entry and participate in a contest that we will launch on social networks, which we have named #FotoVulva," explains the director of the MEB, Sarah Rippert, "the best photos will be displayed in our new room," she adds.

Vulvas, vaginas, and clitorises in the history of erotic art

"From the well-known Paleolithic Venuses to the Mesopotamian goddesses or the exuberant vulvas displayed in Japanese shunga. Vulvas and vaginas have been depicted in art throughout history and in different cultures," explains the MEB's sexologist, Sigrid Cervera. The new permanent exhibition that the MEB inaugurates on May 14th will show visitors how art has also reflected women and femininity as symbols of power and life.

International artists present their works at the MEB

Among the works exhibited in the new room are "The Great Wall of Vagina" (2006) by British artist Jamie McCartney and "VDoor Project" (2024) by Colombian artist Adriana Patricia Bonfante. "We are proud to have works by international artists of their caliber," explains Rippert.
