"Galician Letters 2025" to the Barcelona Galician Center

Every year, on May 17, is dedicated to a prominent figure for the Galician language, and in 2025, the Real Academia Galega dedicates the Galician Letters to the Cantareiras. To those women who were fundamental for the transmission of the oral culture of Galician poetry. A tribute to all of them, and especially to seven women who did immense work for our language, they are: Adolfina and Rosa Casás Rama (from Cerceda), Eva Castiñeira Santos (from Muxía). And the pandeireteiras from Mens: Manuela Lema Villar, Teresa Garcia Prieto, Prudencia Garrido Ameixenda and Asunción Garrido Ameixenda, all from Malpica.

The conference will be given by Ramon Caride, professor, writer and social activist.

For the first time, the choir Lonxe da Terra, with over 90 years of experience, will sing pieces collected together with the pandeireteiras Gandarela. We will inaugurate the photographic exhibition "As pandeireteiras no CGB" by the photographer, neighbor of La Rambla and member of Amics de La Rambla, Cesar Algora, and we will award the prize for the III Certame de Cartas de Amorod(I)o.
