Homage to Pitarra

Floral offering at the statue commemorating Pitarra, in Plaça del Teatre, erected by public subscription in 1906, 120 years ago.

The event will be organized by the Penya de la Rebotiga d'en Pitarra of Barcelona, a group of people from the world of theater and culture in general, based at the Antic Pitarra restaurant on Avinyó street 56, an emblematic space of the Renaixença where Catalan theater was born thanks to the drive of Frederic Soler and his group of literary friends who used to gather in the back room of that iconic venue, which was the old watchmaker's shop and home of Frederic Soler.

At the event, actress and Rebotiga member Carme Sansa will announce the recipient of our annual award, the Esquellot de la Rebotiga, for their artistic achievements. Actor and Rebotiga member Jaume Comas will also present our Manifesto in favor of creating a National Company of Catalan Theater, a public institution whose main goal would be to rescue, revisit, study, update, perform, reissue, consolidate, and disseminate Catalan theatrical heritage. To conclude, actor Enric Majó, resident of Ciutat Vella and also a member of the Rebotiga, will recite a monologue exalting La Rambla present in the Catalan costumbrista zarzuela Lo Pla de la Boqueria, o lo rovell de l'ou, by Serafí Pitarra.

The floral offering will take place at the end of the event. Each member of the Rebotiga will go on stage to lay one at the feet of Pitarra.
