Mexcat and Friends of La Rambla organize this parade to promote the celebration of the Mexican Day of the Dead

On Sunday, November 2, at 12 pm, Friends of La Rambla and the Mexican-Catalan cultural association Mexcat organize the fourth edition of the Catrinas Parade through La Rambla.

The Catrinas Parade is a playful and festive activity open to everyone who wants to participate and aims to promote the culture of the Day of the Dead in Mexico, through the representation of catrinas, a popular and typical figure associated with this tradition.

The catrinas are well-dressed, elegant characters, in the form of skeletons, traditionally feminine, who over the last few decades have had some variations. Now there are male and female catrinas who share a love for dressing well, for extravagance, for everything creative, baroque, and fashionable. They have an antique air even though they usually incorporate contemporary elements. With a solemn and serious air, many times they also include whims and frivolities. The catrinas are always surprising.

Mexcat and Friends of La Rambla invite everyone to stroll through La Rambla assimilating the most typical aesthetics of the Mexican Day of the Dead with the freedoms and motifs they wish to apply to their outfits and makeup, and incorporating - if they see fit - references to La Rambla and Barcelona while preserving the essence of traditional catrinas.

The walk will begin in front of the Poliorama Theater on Sunday, November 2 at 12 pm and will go down La Rambla to Rambla Santa Mònica.

An independent jury, which will assess aspects such as makeup, costumes, originality, use of recycled elements, spectacularity..., will award prizes to the most original and artistic catrinas.

Those interested in participating in the parade can register in advance at mexcat.org@gmail.com with their name, age, catrina's name, and additional information to be provided to the jury.
