Who is Kazuhiko Nishi? How did a young Japanese man manage to become friends with Bill Gates and become a key figure in Microsoft's early years? In this talk, we will discover Nishi's decisive role in the development of MS-DOS and how the arrival of the IBM PC transformed the global computer market. We will discuss the challenges and alliances that made it possible to create a standard for 8-bit microcomputers in Japan, alongside Microsoft, as well as the essential role that the BASIC language played in democratizing home programming.

We will also explore how the MSX standard was born, what its first steps were, and who participated in that ambitious project that marked an entire generation.
