On Friday, March 13 at 11 a.m., we invite you to the tour "La Rambla, a journey through time"
A walk where visitors discover the evolution of this emblematic street through a journey in time that covers some of the most significant periods to discover the transformation of this iconic street. The heartbeat of La Rambla and its metamorphosis, from a simple stream to the most walked and sought-after space in the world.
Originally a river valley, La Rambla went from being the natural route for transit and communication-formed over an ancient riverbed-to becoming an important thoroughfare during Roman times, with archaeological remains that bear witness to the life of the city of Barcino.
During the medieval centuries, it consolidated itself as a commercial and social axis, with the creation of markets and the movement of artisans or peasants, basket makers, potters, and also the creation of emblematic spaces.
In the 17th and 18th centuries, La Rambla became a cultural center with the emergence of theatres and the arrival of the royal court in Barcelona. From wall to five gates such as the Trentaclaus gate, the most recently discovered during current works on La Rambla.
With industrialization and the growth of tourism in the 19th century, La Rambla continued to transform, following European and American trends, becoming a place of trade and entertainment. In the 20th century, despite social conflicts, new cultural venues contributed to its revitalization.
This other captivating perspective offers a surprising and panoramic view through time of this very special and emblematic street, which stands as a living witness, reflecting the changes in the city of Barcelona throughout the years.
