On Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. we invite you to the route "X-ray of Plaça de Catalunya".

It is the epicenter of the city. The heart of it all. The kilometer zero. A public transportation hub and boundary between Ciutat Vella and the Eixample. A meeting point for locals and tourists. A stage for celebrations, demonstrations, and gatherings of all kinds. Ildefons Cerdà envisioned it as a block of houses, the 19th century transformed it into a public open space, and in 1927 King Alfonso XIII inaugurated it as the central square it is today. Despite its undeniable importance (or perhaps because of it), the square remains largely unknown to the locals and passersby who frequent it.

This vibrant and debated space holds surprises. For instance, not everyone knows it features buildings by the architects Pere Bassegoda, Enric Sagnier, or Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Even fewer know that, in 1930, there was a project to build the tallest skyscraper in Europe here. We will walk around its perimeter and then through its interior, with the goal of delving deeper into the discovery of a part of the city that we have crossed so many times. We invite you to change the way you see Plaça de Catalunya: leave behind the perspective of a hurried citizen, and adopt that of a curious stroller.
