The Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona is organizing the public lecture "Einstein" that Dr. David Galadí will give at the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona on February 26 at 6 p.m.
"EINSTEIN LECTURE"
"Solar Eclipses and General Relativity: History and Present" given by Dr. David Galadí i Enríquez (National Outreach Coordinator (NOC), International Astronomical Union (IAU)).
Throughout history, solar eclipses have had many scientific applications related to solar physics or celestial mechanics. Among all of them, however, their most notable use has been in verifying the validity of the theory of general relativity through Eddington's 1919 experiment. We will discuss aspects of this experiment on the gravitational deflection of light that are not always clearly explained, its implications for recent scientific projects, and the prospects for reproducing Eddington's results during the imminent Iberian trio of solar eclipses in 2026-27-28.
Public session with attendance limited to the capacity of the hall
