As part of Barcelona 2026 World Capital of Architecture, the Urbanism Research Group (GRU) of the Department of Urbanism, Territory and Landscape (DUTP) at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) has proposed an exhibition on the process of material construction of the Barcelona metropolis and its relationship with urban planning over the past 150 years.
Through graphic documents (maps, plans, photographs-both archival and current, press), videos, and films, accompanied by headlines and brief texts, the exhibition shows the long process that has taken place in the construction of our metropolis, illustrating the changes in city theory in urban and territorial projects and in the modes of urban planning intervention in each era.
The exhibition aims to contribute to raising awareness of our metropolitan reality, and to make citizens in general, and the agents involved in the construction of the city in particular, aware of the significance and social utility of urban planning involved in the development of the metropolis.
