"The Frozen Uncle" to the Gothic Library Andreu Nin

A firewood maker finds a frozen log in the forest: it's the last trace of an old almond field that was ravaged. He takes it home and places it next to the fire, covered with a blanket. During the night, the log tells the fire its sad story, and the fire, compassionate, decides to help by making an elf come out of the log, giving magical powers to the log, as well as a certain human appearance.

The next day, the family will find a log that will explain the ritual of hitting it with a stick to make food (especially almonds and nougat) and other gifts appear. The log will be the joy of the Christmas celebrations.

Finally, the log will make its last gift in the form of fertilizing ashes that will enable the birth of new fruit-bearing trees and allow the magic of the Christmas log to be repeated in the following years.
