The National Company of Classical Theater returns to the Romea Theater with one of the most important works of the Golden Age. An essential classic by Calderón de la Barca
Calderón de la Barca knew perfectly well the great power of theater to create imaginary worlds previously unknown.
A child of the Counter-Reformation, he had to satisfy the doctrinal needs imposed by the Church of his time.
Calderón's creative genius tried, on countless occasions, to combine his obedience to these doctrinal principles with elements that would elevate the consciousness of his viewers to spaces beyond blind obedience and allow broad levels of reflection, embracing humanity without distinctions.
The Great Theater of the World is a paradigmatic work in this sense. It combines a stage imaginary unprecedented in its time with versification of extraordinary beauty alongside spiritual and philosophical reflections of great depth that offered the spectators of the 17th century, and ourselves, broad levels of reflection on the nature of our existence and the values that accompany it.
That is why The Great Theater of the World continues to be one of the most important theatrical productions of the Golden Age.
