French painter who could be defined as a classic, meant for many generations "the avant-garde" and "modernity", and also, one of the greats of Cubism.
He was born in a small French village in a rural area in the late nineteenth century, a historical period marked by technological changes, the development of machines, and the growth of cities. Soon they realized that the world was changing rapidly: urban areas developed with hustle, noise, speed, confusion... and he understood that the role of the artist is to confront the challenge of addressing this new chaos and transforming it into beauty, balance, and harmony. Art united with life.
Therefore, the artist cannot be alien to the transformation of the world, he must be committed, offer solutions. These solutions are not found by looking to the past but by accepting and organizing the present, with current ideas and resources. Based on these basic principles, Léger began his own evolution, in search of a harmonious world.
The artistic trajectory of Fernand Léger is constant and diverse. The predominance of human figures and geometric shapes, the dialogue between lines and colors, his taste for architecture and pictorial planes are ingredients that shape his own and identifiable art.
The artist creates his own universe, linked to the land and nature, to tradition and, at the same time, to modernity and the machine. A world where he places at the center, modern men and women, from the street, who work and have fun. A colorful humanity that lives the spirit of its time.
Everything interests him, greatness and the smallest things merge into the category of the necessary. Because art and its companion color are part of the essence. Léger conceives art as a fundamental element in the organization of reality, as an essential part of life, not as something complementary. Life and art, art and life, mixed in this harmony that this Norman master has always sought, dazzled by Paris and machines.
