"The storm" from La Perla 29 at Teatre La Biblioteca

Oriol Broggi directs The Tempest, one of William Shakespeare's largest and most magical texts. A return to the essential aesthetic of La Perla 29 and to actor's theater, following the path of King Lear (2008) and Hamlet (2009, 2021), where Teatre La Biblioteca will host the telluric forces of the second Shakespeare of the season.

A storm shipwrecks Alonso, king of Naples, his son Ferdinand, and Antonio, who usurped the Duchy of Milan from his brother. The fateful storm has been caused by Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, who has led them to the remote island where he has been living in exile for some time with his daughter Miranda. The shipwreck sets in motion his vengeful plan, which plays with love and despair, and which he has woven in order to regain what was taken from him, using secret powers of nature. Indeed, Prospero knows the hidden sciences and can control the spirits of the island, like Ariel, whom he has enslaved to his service, or the unfortunate Caliban...

Thus begins one of the greatest and most telluric stories of William Shakespeare, the last in chronological order and maturity that has reached our days. The island will be the stage for jesters, kings, mariners, lovers, nobles, and drunks, surrounded by characters who only live in fiction while it becomes reality in the theater.
