Joel Joan stars in this monologue directed by Nelson Valente that revisits the classic by Chekhov.

Vània is a recreation of the masterful work by Anton Chekhov "Uncle Vanya" (1897) in monologue format. Simon Stephens proposes a reinterpretation of Chekhov's text that takes place in the present day and outside of tsarist Russia.

Vània is a mosaic of different characters anchored in an ancestral home outside the big city where eight characters spend what will likely be their last summer there. As in other Chekhov classics, what is important is not the plot or storyline of the work but the buried life of its characters. Their true inner life, the moods of men and women who, with more or less anguish and resignation, witness the fulfillment of the destiny that has befallen them.
