Joan Deulofeu, president

On December 29, 1981, Amadeu Bagués had died and then Mr. Joan Deulofeu i Hortal was elected as president of the Association, who had already been part of the first board of directors. During his presidency, which would last until '86, the entity began to mature the basic ideas of what could be an urban improvement plan for La Rambla. The Association's proposal materialized in 1985 in a document delivered to the first Deputy Mayor, Jordi Parpal, presented in support of Barcelona's candidacy for the 1992 Olympic Games.

Among other things, the Association proposed rationalizing traffic flow; introducing open spaces and gardens; enlarging the square around the monument to Christopher Columbus, ensuring easy access to the monument for visitors, and ultimately striving by all means for La Rambla to be considered "the historical, artistic, monumental, traditional, picturesque, cultural, and commercial axis of Barcelona."
