The Roser Festivities
If the Association served, to some extent, as a lobby or entity defending the interests of merchants or, sometimes, as a pressure group against certain urban excesses, it also had a civic function, through the parties it organized in honor of the patroness of La Rambla, Mare de Déu del Roser, celebrated on October 7th.
The festivities of Roser in 1973 were very successful, lasting for a week: on Sunday, October 7th, a sung mass was celebrated at the church of Belén, with the participation of the choir "Les Flors de Maig".
Then, a floral offering was made at the niche with the image of Mare de Déu del Roser at the Virreina Palace.
On Monday, the Association's Tourist Information Office was inaugurated in Pla de l'Os, which - faced with the widespread lack of ideas - meant partly recovering the idea that the worthy citizens of 1909 had when creating the Society for Attracting Foreigners.
On Tuesday, the second sports race took place under the slogan "Rambles avall", and after the race ended and the prize was awarded, there was a public performance of sardanas. On Wednesday, the board of directors presented a "tortell" to the municipal authorities, continuing an ancient tradition.
On Thursday, a dinner was held at the Hotel Orient for the new Ramblistas of Honor Mary Santpere, Lluís Miravitlles, and Ricardo Jiménez.
Finally, on Friday, a mass was held at the parish of Sant Josep i Santa Mònica, in suffrage for the honorary Ramblistas and deceased members of the association.
