"In a principal de La Rambla" by Tona Pous

The author wrote: «Can you fall in love with an apartment, with a promenade?» Now, after almost thirty years of living on the Rambla, she can state it categorically, without a hint of doubt. And it is precisely this apartment and this Rambla that seem to have dictated the four stories to her, the ones that have drawn for her those characters who lived, enjoyed, and suffered in this apartment, in this main floor, from the second half of the nineteenth century until almost today. You will find different voices, different registers. Sometimes realism prevails, other times it is dressed in grotesque or poetic tones; we can also find touches of slightly acidic humor sprinkled in. As we read, we can imagine women and men opening the balconies and looking out onto this Rambla that keeps changing but is always unique, unrepeatable, often with a sad gaze, lost in those words of Azorín: «No one will ever take away its sorrowful feeling».
