The Barcelona Destination has reached a new high in certifications from the Compromís per a la Sostenibilitat Turística Barcelona program, a project shared by the City Council and the Provincial Council of Barcelona with the collaboration of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the Barcelona Tourism Consortium. This year, a total of 1,198 organizations and companies have received the program's certification, of which 121 are new members and 1,077 are label renewals. By territory, 613 recognitions are in the city of Barcelona and 585 in the rest of the province. Amics de La Rambla and the entities and businesses associated with Amics de La Rambla represent almost 5% of the memberships in the city of Barcelona.

This program, aimed at companies, services, and public entities in the city and the counties of Barcelona, aims to promote responsible tourism aligned with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as international guidelines for sustainable tourism. Organizations that are part of the program receive a certificate that attests to their commitment to the values of the project, which also seeks to reinforce Barcelona as a responsible tourist destination. In fact, Barcelona was the first urban destination to achieve its certification in 2011, and since then the recognition has expanded throughout the territory.

The awards were given this Friday at an event in La Llotja de Mar with the recognized organizations and speeches by the Deputy for Tourism of the Barcelona Provincial Council, Ana Herrera; the Commissioner for the Management of Sustainable Tourism of the Barcelona City Council, José Antonio Donaire; and the President of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, Josep Santacreu.

This year, the program has recognized the efforts of various highly relevant organizations in the territory, including iconic cultural venues such as the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, the Picasso Museum, the Joan Miró Foundation, the Gran Teatre del Liceu, or the FC Barcelona Museum, as well as prestigious hotel establishments and leading hotel chains, and different local administrations and destinations in the counties of Barcelona-including municipalities such as Vilanova i la Geltrú, Igualada, Collbató, or l'Hospitalet de Llobregat-which have reaffirmed their commitment to a model of tourism that is responsible, sustainable, and aligned with the values of certification.

During the event, various success stories of best practices from organizations and companies certified by the Compromís per a la Sostenibilitat Turística Barcelona were also presented. These best practices highlighted various dimensions of sustainability reflected in the program, such as the circular economy, accessibility, inclusion, and social impact.
