Streets in the La Mercè neighborhood and Plaça Reial illuminated until March 28th
January 27th. 2026
The District will illuminate some of the darkest spaces in the neighborhoods of El Born, El Gòtic, and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina, and La Ribera with garlands. The neighborhood of La Mercè is one of the neighborhoods where more illuminated streets will be maintained. These illuminations will be kept until the time change on March 28.
With this lighting, the City Council aims to reduce the feeling of insecurity and revitalize commerce. Specifically, some illuminated garlands will be kept intentionally lighting up some of the narrowest streets in Ciutat Vella from façade to façade. The municipal government is working on a plan to give these streets a more cheerful look and generate a greater sense of security. In this way, a demand that has been accumulating years of history is fulfilled, as merchants on both sides of Via Laietana have been requesting it from the council for a long time.
