The Erotic Museum of Barcelona (MEB) presents "Eros in the family: affective and sexual education through erotic art"

October 17th. 2025

The Museum of Eroticism of Barcelona (MEB) opens to the public this November "Eros in the Family: affective and sexual education through erotic art", the new family line of the "Art and Sexology Program", designed and directed by Sigrid Cervera, sexologist of the MEB and responsible for its Department of Education. "Eros in the Family" aims to accompany families with children from 6 to 25 years old to talk and teach about sexuality based on the culture and history of erotic art. The program combines tours through rooms, intergenerational workshops, and materials to continue the conversation at home.

What do we talk about when we talk about sex and sexuality? What do we talk about when we talk about love? What do we talk about when we talk about diversity?... And how can we address it as a family?

A proposal on affective and sexual education through erotic art and from a sexological perspective. Based on the collection and the history of art -from Paleolithic Venuses to contemporary creators like Picasso or Dalí- families can take adapted intergenerational tours and workshops according to age groups (6-9; 10-12; 13-15; 16-18; and 19-25).

"The MEB's goal is to enhance its extraordinary capacity as a transmitter of ideas and knowledge, we not only limit ourselves to exhibit but through our educational area we actively contribute to society's education", states Sarah Rippert, Director of the MEB. "We want to offer families a safe and rigorous cultural space"; adds Rippert.

"It is an educational journey through the representation of eroticism over time that offers practical tools to continue the conversation at home, focused on coexistence and the reinforcement of family values and their own criteria", affirms Sigrid Cervera, sexologist of the MEB and program responsible. "The history of art is a fertile ground to understand eroticism as a culture of encounter", adds the sexologist.

What does Eros in the Family offer

In addition to age modules with their corresponding objectives, the program includes various participation formats among which the Family format stands out (for families wishing to carry out the activity exclusively) and the Group of families format (in which several families share the same activity). There are also intergenerational activities involving all family members and activities directed only at adult educators. "When we talk about families we are not only referring to parents but also grandparents, uncles, stepmothers, and stepfathers", states Sarah Rippert, Director of the MEB. "There are many types of families, as many as families exist", adds the sexologist, Sigrid Cervera.

"Eros in the Family" is a comprehensive sexual education project, with a positive focus on sexuality as a human value, a project adapted to different life stages and needs. It is a pioneering educational proposal in affective-sexual literacy through erotic art, aimed at families, with rigor, accessibility, and sensitivity. Activities are available in Spanish and Catalan (English upon request).

"Affective and sexual education is to value the human dimension that allows us to know each other, accept each other, love each other, and enjoy each other, increasing our individual and relational autonomy. If we know ourselves better and understand others better, we will be able to express and transmit our desires, it will be easier to avoid conflicts and promote coexistence", explains Cervera.
