From the hand of ELISAVA, the Guild of Florists creates the Rosa d'Author seal to promote quality roses

The chosen image, by ELISAVA student Paula Jericó, represents a rose made in trencadís, a technique with a long modernist tradition that combines craftsmanship and creativity, the keys to the Rosa d'Author

Today the Rambla has hosted the presentation of the "Rosa d'Author" seal, which aims to recognize and value the rose made by florists and differentiate it from roses made by non-professionals. Through a collaboration with the Elisava design and engineering faculty, twelve students from the Design Degree have presented their projects to create the representative image of this seal.

The winning project by Paula Jericó is inspired by a rose made in trencadís, a craftsmanship technique that delicately fits the pieces together, combining modernist tradition and avant-garde, integrating craftsmanship and creativity, the keys to the Rosa d'Author.

Behind the idea of consolidating this seal is a strong concern among florists for the number of stalls set up by individuals. "We can continue to celebrate a successful Sant Jordi and give it more value? The answer is yes, but we demand a reduction in the stalls set up by individuals that appear on the street without any administrative or tax control to carry out a purely economic activity, creating overcrowding and causing a loss to the professional sector," stated Joan Guillén, president of the Guild of Florists of Catalonia.

Florists are in favor of a Sant Jordi where the professional sector, entities, associations, NGOs, and individual stalls can coexist in a more fair and balanced way. The resizing proposal aims to follow the path of professionalism, sustainability, and what is known as value content. It is in this sense that in recent years we have been consolidating the Rosa d'Author to promote the artisan quality rose crafted by the florist.

This concern coincides with the defense that Friends of La Rambla make of the florists of La Rambla as a heritage element of the city. The florists of La Rambla represent tradition and local commerce, and it is necessary to fight to maintain, defend, and promote them.

The event was attended by the Councilor for Commerce and Markets, Raquel Gil, who paid tribute to Jordi Hernández from Flors Benzal.
