The online reputation of La Rambla rises to 8.64 out of 10 according to the iRON index

June 22nd. 2026

Amics de La Rambla conducts an in-depth analysis of the online reviews of nearly two million visitors to La Rambla to gauge its reputation and tourist experience.

The report, prepared by the 'Observatori Rambla', aims to understand the experience of those who visit this emblematic street and its surroundings, evaluating its culture, coexistence, and quality.

As part of the project 'La Rambla 2023 - 2027, a new model of urban tourism', the monitor offers a comprehensive view of how local and foreign visitors rate their experience on the promenade.

The initiative, led by Amics de la Rambla, is supported by the platform GetYourGuide as a strategic partner.

The association Amics de La Rambla has presented the report "La Rambla: culture, coexistence and quality of the environment" with the collaboration of GetYourGuide, Europe's leading marketplace for the sale of tourist activities and experiences. This platform has worked with the organization for over three years to enhance and improve La Rambla, consolidating its appeal as the city's most iconic avenue.

The identity of La Rambla is based on a unique cultural offering, diverse commerce, and a tangible and intangible heritage that Amics de La Rambla has defended and helped to preserve for more than six decades, promoting the centrality of the promenade, coexistence, and the enhancement of the space. It is considered Barcelona's main thoroughfare and one of the places where daily life, economic activity, and the city's tourist experience most clearly converge.

Measuring the visitor experience

Among the most notable conclusions of the study, it is confirmed that La Rambla and its surroundings maintain a high and consistent online reputation. The Global Online Reputation Index (iRON) reaches 8.64, with positive results mainly based on the strength of its cultural and experiential offering.

Tourist activities achieve an average score of 9.01 and tourist attractions 8.86. Meanwhile, restaurants and accommodation are rated at 8.34 and 8.33, respectively. Overall, six out of ten reviews are in the top rating range (9-10), confirming a positive and sustained reputational base over time.

iRON is a tourist reputation index developed by Vivential Value that aggregates and normalizes, on a common scale from 1 to 10, the reviews made by visitors on reference portals such as Google Maps, Tripadvisor, and Facebook. In total, nearly two million reviews accumulated up to January 2026 have been analyzed, covering around 2,400 establishments and experiences, among others, in the La Rambla area.

Additionally, more than 4,500 mentions and comments made by users between 2024 and 2025 have been analyzed, referring to 10 specific assets related to performing arts, museums, and heritage. By using MeturIA, a tourist experience monitor also designed by Vivential Value and based on generative AI language models, opinions on strengths and areas for improvement have been identified and grouped to extract a general synthesis of the visitor experience and perception.

At the same time, GetYourGuide's collaboration has enriched the study by providing an analysis of user experience, contributing aggregated information such as seasonality, user nationality, average prices, accessibility, and a comparison with other attractions in the city of Barcelona, to better understand the behavior of tourist demand.

Within this framework, the main value of the report is that it allows for the conversion of a large volume of reviews and opinions into a structured, comparable, and continuous base for strategic observation, thanks to the integration of iRON and the textual analysis of MeturIA, as well as the aggregated information provided by GetYourGuide.

With this analysis, we are taking another step forward in our commitment to understanding the reality of La Rambla and working for a better-quality environment, more connected to its cultural identity and better prepared to meet the expectations of those who walk it every day. Analyzing reviews and comments about the visitor experience gives us a structured vision that allows us to work with much greater precision, both to improve their satisfaction during the visit and to preserve its cultural value and strengthen its role as one of the city's leading landmarks”, explained Ángel Díaz, Vice-President of Amics de La Rambla.

Experiential activities as the axis of cultural centrality

In the field of tourism, the report demonstrates that not all proposals contribute equally to the reputation of the environment. Initiatives with a more participatory, cultural, and experiential component, such as workshops or guided tours, receive the best reviews, while more standardized options achieve comparatively lower satisfaction levels.

As advocated by Amics de La Rambla and GetYourGuide, it is necessary to reinforce and highlight activities that better express the cultural centrality of the promenade, while also working with specific operators to raise operational standards and perceived value. In commerce and gastronomy, the analysis confirms the strong appeal of the Mercat de la Boqueria and, more broadly, the surrounding restaurant offerings. However, it also identifies ongoing tensions between variety, authenticity, and overtourism.

The analysis defines the avenue as a vibrant, tree-lined space, with shops, bars, and street artists, reflecting a generally positive appreciation. Nonetheless, it concludes that the visitor experience can be affected by urban environment variables and the condition of public spaces.

Toni Bennasar, Regional Manager of GetYourGuide in Spain and Portugal, explained: “This report highlights that the quality of the experience makes all the difference for the visitor. At GetYourGuide, we support a tourism model that fosters a better relationship with the environment, connects tourists with the cultural identity of the destination, and enables a greater balance between visitors and local life. When it comes to emblematic and representative areas like La Rambla, it is especially relevant to keep strengthening this type of more sustainable tourism”.

Quality of life, coexistence, and enhancement of La Rambla

The opinions analyzed in the report consistently show that the experience in La Rambla does not depend solely on the quality of its cultural resources or its businesses. As for opportunities for improvement, references to perceived security stand out first, with frequent mentions of pickpockets, a certain sense of insecurity in some sections and at peak times, as well as overcrowding on the promenade and ongoing construction works.

Similarly, the issue of the state of public space clearly emerges. There are mentions of dirt, bad odors, occasional cleaning shortages, and temporary effects of the remodeling. In the Monument a Colom area, work sites and fences, lack of maintenance, and insufficient night lighting are noted.

In this regard, security, cleanliness, maintenance, accessibility, thermal comfort, and capacity management appear as especially relevant dimensions in the visitor's perception and in daily coexistence. It is worth highlighting, however, that complaints about pickpockets, overcrowding, construction, or architectural barriers do not overshadow the overall positive assessment, but rather identify priority areas for attention to sustain a more consistent and balanced experience.

Commitment to a new urban tourism model

In 2022, with the start of the remodeling works, the project 'La Rambla, a new model of urban tourism' was launched. With the support of the Barcelona City Council, its objective is to recover the appeal of the promenade for local residents. In this regard, Amics de La Rambla has devoted efforts to review the economic, social, and interest model of La Rambla and its surroundings.

In 2024, the organization presented the first Observatori Rambla, with the support of the Barcelona City Council and GetYourGuide, as a hub for collecting and analyzing data and information, to turn it into shared knowledge about the reality of this space and its area of influence.

With this report, Amics de La Rambla has a baseline to observe trends, identify strengths, detect recurring frictions, and guide priorities for action with greater precision. All this should strengthen collaborative initiatives with private entities, the Barcelona City Council, and the Ciutat Vella District.

Over 65 years promoting the social, commercial, and cultural interests of the promenade

Amics de La Rambla is a civic association founded in 1960 to defend and promote the social, commercial, and cultural interests of the promenade. Its strategic objectives are oriented towards consolidating the cultural centrality of the avenue and safeguarding its tangible and intangible heritage, promoting quality programming, and reclaiming empty spaces for cultural and creative uses.

As the first association in the city to receive the Biosphere sustainability certificate in 2018, the entity seeks to ensure coexistence and quality of life for local residents by dignifying public space, demanding more security, maintenance, and cleanliness, as well as through rehabilitation and universal accessibility.

In parallel, it promotes a more diverse and demanding economic offer, raising the standards of commerce, restaurants, and accommodation to meet the expectations of both residents and visitors. Altogether, this aims to preserve the balance between residential, commercial, and tourist uses of La Rambla, as well as strengthen its centrality and connectivity with the rest of the city.

On July 2, Amics de La Rambla will hold the Observatori Rambla Forum, a space to present ongoing projects and initiatives, both public and private. The event will bring together representatives of the Barcelona City Council, as well as various entities and actors from the city's cultural, commercial, and leisure sectors.
