Videos to (Re) Discover La Rambla IV. Los Caracoles Restaurant
With this series of videos they want to invite you to (Re)Discover La Rambla. We want to bring you closer to institutions, historic businesses, attractions, traditions...
This fourth video is dedicated to Restaurant Los Caracoles.
The chickens slowly roasting on the spit and filling the neighborhood with their delicious smell... an image from the childhood of many of us that still lives on today. The restaurant "Los Caracoles" is run by the fifth generation of the Bofarull family who opened the business, under the name of Can Bofarull, in 1835 at number 3 Carrer Nou de Sant Francesc.
In the old tavern, where wine, oil, soap, beer were sold..., they began to accompany drinks with snail dishes. The success of this culinary offering turned Can Bofarull, by popular acclaim, into "Los Caracoles". It was then when the owners of the business, in 1915, decided to hang the sign with the new name that has survived to this day.
The success of the venue also led to an expansion and the installation of a grill - later replaced by the chicken rotisserie - on the corner with Carrer Escudellers. This chicken rotisserie has become one of the typical elements of "Los Caracoles". In 1934, the cellar was transformed into a restaurant.
Upon entering we find the bar-counter loaded with the many stories that have been told in the complicity that this space creates. Different lounges with different capacities, stairs going up and down, photographs that speak of the history of the place and an atmosphere full of history, is what we find once we immerse ourselves in "Los Caracoles". They have lounges that can be reserved for private celebrations such as the small "el celler" or "la cafetera" which can accommodate up to 50 people.
Aside from the snails that have given them their name and fame, and the chickens that all Barcelonians have smelled while walking down Escudellers, at "Los Caracoles" we can enjoy the most traditional dishes of Catalan and Spanish cuisine. The service, professional and always attentive, is also one of the elements that distinguish the restaurant. The price per person usually ranges between €25 and €35 and they have menus for groups.
The list of international personalities who have passed through the halls of Los Caracoles to enjoy their gastronomy is endless and includes names such as Salvador Dalí, Jerry Lewis, Pablo Picasso, Vittorio Gassman, Renata Tebaldi, Lenny Kravitz, Rommy Schneider, Joan Miró, Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, Edwin Moses, Robert de Niro, Gary Cooper, Montserrat Caballé... many of them now adorn their walls, becoming one more attraction of this historic restaurant on Carrer Escudellers.
The "Videos to (Re)Discover La Rambla" are part of the project "La Rambla, a new model of Urban Tourism" with which Amics de La Rambla wants to invite you to stroll along La Rambla and get to know it better. The project is supported by the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council and GetYourGuide.
