Videos to (Re)discover La Rambla XVI. Torrons Vicens

With this series of videos, we want to invite you to (Re)Discover La Rambla. We want to bring you closer to institutions, historic businesses, attractions, traditions...

This 16th video is dedicated to the Torrons Vicens Nougat and Chocolate Shop and Museum.

The Nougat and Chocolate Museum is a unique space in the city of Barcelona where Torrons Vicens seeks to bring the gastronomic culture of nougat and chocolate to everyone. The museum is located in an iconic building from 1910 at La Rambla 134, accessible through the Torrons Vicens shop, a spacious and bright 300-square-meter space with a tasting area and workshop.

With the creation of the museum, in such an emblematic area of Barcelona as La Rambla, we want to showcase the past and present of Torrons Vicens and how we have managed to revolutionize the world of nougat, contributing to the consolidation of the nougat sector in Agramunt thanks to our commitment to tradition, innovation, and quality, our pillars.

The Nougat Revolution

The revolution of the nougat world in Agramunt began with Ángel Velasco Pérez, who, in the year 2000, acquired Torrons Vicens, and thanks to his passion, effort, and vision for the future, transformed a company dating from 1775 into the leading reference for nougat in Catalonia and Spain. In two decades, we have made nougat a year-round dessert, breaking its seasonal nature. The Nougat and Chocolate Museum in Barcelona allows visitors to understand the crucial role we have played in developing the sector in the municipality of Ponent, Agramunt. The introduction of new flavors and formats and collaboration with top chefs such as José Andrés and Albert Adrià, have elevated nougat to haute cuisine.

3D Projections, Holograms, Mapping, and an Immersive Room

From the central area of the shop, stairs connect the store to the museum, making both shop and museum the two pillars of a unique cultural and gastronomic project in the city of Barcelona. The museum space has been built on a surface of about 370 square meters and features several rooms that narrate the history of the nougat sector in Agramunt. The museum tour begins with an introduction to the history of Agramunt Nougat and the Torrons Vicens brand, from its founding in 1775 to its acquisition by the Velasco family in 2000 and up to the present day. The museum also tells the story of Xocolata Jolonch, owned by Torrons Vicens, one of Europe's oldest chocolates (1770), which we are still producing today with the original recipe and top-quality ingredients.

The traditional preparation of hot chocolate is recreated in one of the museum's rooms, designed to simulate a chocolate shop from the early 20th century. In the room, there are large wooden windows in modernist style through which real images of Barcelona from that era are projected. The description of the chocolate-making process is accompanied by pieces of original furniture, such as a replica of a three-century-old wooden refrigerator. You can also see how a real mill for grinding chocolate worked, thanks to holograms generated through a transparent glass, offering an astonishing recreation of the activity in an 18th-century chocolate factory.

The visit ends with a special tasting that allows us to discover the flavors, textures, and nuances of quality nougats and chocolates.
