THE BEST MEDITERRANEAN-THEMED AQUARIUM IN THE WORLD

A privileged space to discover the biodiversity of marine ecosystems and species from the Mediterranean, and to convey a message about the necessity and importance of their conservation.

The tour through our biological collection aims to be an immersion, as real as possible, in the Mediterranean, strolling through the 66 Mediterranean and tropical aquariums, where eleven thousand specimens of more than 450 different species coexist. The largest and most spectacular is the Oceanarium, where a transparent tunnel more than 80 meters long will bring you closer to the various species of sharks, rays, moray eels, and others.

At the beginning of the visit, we will delve into surface ecosystems and gradually gain depth, showing the different habitats, animals, and plants that characterize each barometric zone, also dedicating tanks to areas of special interest such as the Medes Islands Marine Reserve, of special biological richness and high biodiversity.

As a counterpoint to this journey through the Mediterranean depths, we display a gallery with a series of tanks dedicated to the most representative tropical seas of our planet, such as the Red Sea, the Caribbean, or Australia's Great Barrier Reef, where visitors can compare the stark beauty of the sea that bathes our coasts with the explosion of colors and biodiversity of the coral reef fauna. However, be careful! Tropical species also include venomous species.

Undoubtedly, one of the main attractions of the Barcelona Aquarium is the shark. During the tropical tour, various species of sharks, such as blacktip reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and zebra sharks, can be observed up close.
